Finland's chillier-than-usual May is turning around this week, particularly in southern Finland which will bask in sunshine and warm days—at least temporarily.
Yle meteorologist Joonas Koskela said the mercury may reach 20 degrees Celsius on Monday.
"By Tuesday it should be pretty summer-like in most of the country with the sun shining in a cloudless sky," he said.
Overnight frost is, however, still possible on Monday and Tuesday.
Meteorologists expect this spring's record highs to be broken on Tuesday as a band of warm weather arrives, stretching all the way up to Lapland.
By Thursday a new weather front moving in from the west will dump rain and cool temperatures nationwide, initially in southern parts of the country.
"From Monday to Wednesday it will be summer-like, after that it's a wet and cold towel thrown over us," he explained. "Daytime temperatures could drop down to 10 degrees."
Warm and dry conditions over the past few days have increased the risk of forest fires in southern and western areas. Rescue workers put out several such fires across the country this past weekend.
A forest fire warning is currently in force for most of southern and western Finland.
