Automated restaurants are reducing the need for service workers and scaners have reduced the need for cashiers. And while the focus may be on blue collar jobs, these machiens are creeping into white collar jobs. For exmaple, computer programs are being used to write sports news. Imagine a system where all the data is uploaded into a computer to, say, run a company. It would be far less expensive than CEO and board. With this system, there would be no need for anyone aside from programmers. Accountants, attorneys, even some doctors could find themselves replaced. No salary. No vacations. No sick days. No retirement fund. Even artists could find themselves competing with computers that can produce works of art or music we will all fawn over. Looking deep into the future, it could be a scary thing when man has to compete with a machine for money to buy food.
