- What role does a high school diploma play in the admission process if a polytechnic uses discretional admission?

- Suppose I've applied for admisson to one of the polytechnics in Finland. Suppose they send me an invitation to take their entrance exams. Having passed, how long do I have to wait until the college sends me a letter of acceptance/denial?

- How long is my visa going to be valid for?

- Can I wait for their final decision in Finland or I have to go back to my country?

- Housing while in Finland: how much does it cost to stay somewhere overnight ( let's say, the cheapest?)

I've called those guys before... They told me I could get an insurance right near the embassy/consulate... Another question which the embassy representatives did not have an answer to - what documents do I have to provide? They advised me to contact one of the insurance agencies in Russia... How the hell do I call those guys if they are hanging outside at the embassy? Are here any ppl that have purchased an insurance like that before?

It depends on whether you are applying for a visa or residence permit. There is a big difference between these two types of permits. If you have a visa, then you cannot stay longer than 90 days within a half of year. In this care a travel insurance is valid. However, if you have a residence permit for studies, then your insurance may or may not be valid. You have to read its conditions before you purchase the insurance. If you are lazy to find a suitable cheap insurance, then you may consider www.swisscare.ch and enjoy VIP privileges.

You can stay in a railway station which is open during the night. Just bring your sleeping bag. It's free.

I am from Kazakhstan. Being a citizen of this one, you do not have a waiver. In other words, I do have to get a visa.

As I have understood, I will need two different insurances - one for entering Finland on a visa for the entrance exams, the second one for a residence permit after I get accepted. Is that correct?
